TCM treatment for hair loss & alopecia areata in Singapore
Scalp stimulation, herbal lotion massage, acupuncture and herbal medicine to stop hair fall and stimulate regrowth — an approach we have used successfully for many years.
Hair loss is distressing at any age — whether it's coin-sized bald patches appearing suddenly (alopecia areata 斑秃), thinning at the forehead or crown, or hair falling in bunches after childbirth. In TCM's view, healthy hair depends on the body underneath: blood circulation to the scalp, and the condition of the organs that nourish hair. Our treatment works on both.
What we treat
- Alopecia areata (斑秃) — sudden coin-sized bald patches, including severe whole-head cases
- General hair loss & thinning (脱发) — forehead thinning in men, crown thinning in women
- Postpartum hair loss — common during breastfeeding and after childbirth
- Stress-related hair loss — including in students and working adults
How each session works
- Scalp stimulation with a special instrument, knocking around the scalp to activate hair pores.
- Herbal lotion massage of the whole head with a hair-growth herbal lotion.
- Scalp acupuncture to improve blood circulation to the follicles.
- Oral herbal medicine to nourish hair and prevent further loss from within.
Treatment is taken as a package of eight sessions; most patients need two to three months to see regrowth, and severe cases longer.
Patient example: a student's full recovery
A 16-year-old student preparing for his O-levels lost almost 90% of his hair to severe alopecia (全头秃头) brought on by exam anxiety. Under the care of our senior physician Cassandra Tan at the Clementi branch, he came faithfully for scalp treatments and took oral herbal medicine. His hair grew back slowly over four to five months — and his confidence with it. His family kindly agreed to share his photos to encourage others.

More cases
Three bald patches, normal in three months. A 45-year-old woman came in distressed: three five-cent-coin patches of scalp with little or no hair, and bunches of hair dropping when she washed. After eight sessions her hair stopped dropping and started to regrow; after three months it was back to normal.
After years of medication. A 58-year-old man had spent over $10,000 across five to six years on treatments and medication — but his hair dropped again whenever he stopped the tablets. After a course of our follicle-stimulation treatment, he was pleased to find his hair had grown well within three months.
Individual results vary. These accounts and photos were previously published on our clinic blog with the patients' consent.
Hair loss FAQs
Can hair really grow back with TCM treatment?
In many cases, yes — particularly alopecia areata (coin-sized bald patches) and hair loss linked to stress, childbirth or general health. Our treatment stimulates the follicles and improves scalp circulation while herbal medicine addresses the underlying condition. Regrowth typically shows over two to three months. Results vary by individual and cause.
How does the treatment work?
Each session combines stimulation of the scalp with a special instrument, massage with a herbal hair-growth lotion, and acupuncture on the head to activate the follicles and improve blood circulation. This is supported by oral herbal medicine to nourish hair from within. Treatment is usually taken as a package of eight sessions.
Does it help postpartum hair loss?
Yes — hair loss during breastfeeding and in the months after childbirth is one of the most common cases we see in women, and it generally responds well to treatment.
How is this different from long-term medication?
Some patients come to us after years on hair-loss medication, finding hair drops again once they stop. Our approach aims at the root cause — follicle vitality and the body's underlying condition — over a defined course of treatment rather than indefinite medication. Individual results vary.
